I'm just holding out for the end of this examination period so that I can go to Cambridge guilt-free this weekend, and home not long after. My railcard is my friend. It's odd to think that a few years ago it was an adventure to get the train ten minutes down the line to a town I knew well, now I travel across the country on a whim. That's "growing up" for you.

Alice in Wonderland at Tate Liverpool

Although I'm currently reading English ("books. You read english... books" I always think of that An Education joke) at university in Liverpool, I studied Art until A Level and I still can't resist a gallery every once in a while.

The Tate Liverpool has had its Alice in Wonderland exhibition since November but a lethal combination of essays, exams (one left!), and going home for Christmas has meant I haven't been able to go... until yesterday. I know, a blogger~ liking Alice in Wonderland is hardly surprising, but knowing there would be some Pre-Raphaelite works there (Rossetti! Hunt! Millais!) gave me a more substantial need to visit and part with £5.40 (Worth. It. It's a massive exhibition too). I thought you might like to see the sketches I did while I was there (Millais, Penrose, and Rackham. Further proof I still can't draw hands. Click through to see it bigger, if you fancy), and a photo of me taken last term standing on the kitchen surface and "proving" I'm tall by touching the ceiling. Maybe it was something labelled "drink me".

And in regards to the Coachella stuff I wrote in my last post, I was going to go, but my friend pulled out due to an internship and I didn't fancy going all that way with people I don't know so well. Thank you for letting me know about your experiences though! To compensate, I've been spending too much time window shopping on the Mulberry website and dreaming of Paris next year.

2012 is here! Currently watching the Come Dine With Me: Made in Chelsea special - so much love for Caggie and Binky - proof alone that my taste in TV hasn't improved one jot. For NYE I went to a house party (there was a pool, Michael Barrymore was mentioned many times) and I sincerely doubt any photos will make it here, but I had heaps of fun and little sleep (yet again, no change from last year).

So, what has changed? Well, my hair for starters. Not quite the "Mahogany Brown" advertised but it's pretty cool, if I do say so myself. Outdoor photos at home, much to the bemusement of my mother (Who took the photos? Where did you go? Just why did you do that??).

Other than that, I really can't think of anything else. I'm still the one that turns up to a party with at least three cameras and I spent today breaking up one of the wooden stirrers in Starbucks. Living the dream.

I've written about ten drafts of text to accompany this post, yet everything I write is so sentimental that it ends up sounding insincere. So, in its simplest form, I'd just like to thank everyone who reads whatever rubbish I write here. It truly does mean a lot to read through comments, have ridiculous conversations on Twitter, and even meet up with you lovely lot. I hope you all have a fantastic NYE, can't wait to read all about it!
My resolutions for 2011 were to "stop acting like a dick and wear more glitter", might have to carry those ones over to 2012...

Hi gratuitous photo of my face. But it's Christmas, so there's my feeble excuse. Loving life in my cracker hat (I won a mini photo frame) and with my new mug. Everyone's got to receive a novelty mug at Christmas. This one's from M&S and, according to the label, holds "a gentlemanly cup of tea". Danielle's mum made these cupcakes - how cool is the penguin?? - so this can be added to the long list of things I've eaten today (the "it's Christmas" excuse comes into play again).
Going to head back downstairs to watch the Strictly Come Dancing special with my mum as there's something christmassy in essence about Anton du Beke's face.

Since getting home on Thursday I've been freezing among good company. Lots of catching up to do being done over food and drink, breathing out ice and watching it glitter in the wintry sun. Tomorrow I'm meeting up with Jazzy (you should go and enter her giveaway!) for more of the aforementioned food and drink, then I'm off to see The Waxwork (again. jeeze.) for a setlist which features Peanut Butter Wolf (who apparently is a real person).

This is what I received from family and friends (and myself!) for my birthday. This is by no means a "look what I've got and you haven't" kind of post, more of an "I'm currently sitting under a duvet in my PJs after getting in at 7 and you really don't want to see my face" one.

It's so odd to leave my lectures and wish people a Merry Christmas, is it just me who finds the festive season has crept up on them? Regardless, with my final tut on "Jude the Obscure" finished, I can now say I'm halfway through my degree. Woah. To celebrate the end of term I went with some of my course mates to the Raz (read this to whet your appetite). Thankfully you can't see it in these photos, but it's quite obvious I haven't had time to clean my shoes since. (Or sleep either, can you see those bags?! Damn you dubstep boy on the floor above, must you really listen to it till six every morning??)

I'm getting the train home in about two hours, so by my side there is a suitcase of quarter gifts, quarter clothes, and half books (essay and exams to treat myself when I come back in January - hooray!).

I had the most wonderful weekend with two of my favourite people. When not learning how to do the Paper Planes dance in Sabby's flat in Belsize Park, we went to the Degas exhibition at the Royal Academy, ate hummus for four meals in a row (thank you to hummus bros for the free birthday malabi in the last photo!), disputed the legitimacy of an "all night" DJ at Proud Camden on the 24, and drank cocktails and champagne at Dirty Martini (who have the nicest staff, I truly recommend it).

I didn't intend to take outfit photos, but while Sabby was preparing for her moot and Charles was in Acton I wandered down to Hampstead and took advantage of the Heath's emptiness caused by the chilly December weather.
Birthday tomorrow!

Three weeks ago (ha) during my reading week I went to London to meet up with some lovely people. I met Elosie and Dina at Euston and headed directly (for we did not get lost) to the Whistles SS12 press day. Bright colours, stripes, lace... Let's be honest, Whistles haven't ever got it wrong. I felt kiiind of uncomfortable after reading the guestbook (companies included Vogue and InStyle, that I can remember), so we headed off to to the Motel bloggers evening. There were so many people I knew. ~~Probably~~ definitely came across like a stalker, but it was lovely to finally meet people I've "known" for what felt like forever over mojitos prepared by Motel Student Ambassadors (of which I am one too, my first post can be found here) and Lola's cupcakes provided by GlossyBox.

This is the only photo I managed to get where my hair isn't in my face (here's a good example of your classic hairinface scenario). I've currently got it pushed behind my ears so I can ignore it, but I promise you that it's incredibly windy in Liverpool today.
Okay, I caved, I bought something else. This jumper is from Ryan Vintage which opened a couple of days ago about halfway down Bold Street (apparently they have branches in Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield too). Texting my friend, she noted the irony of having summery flowers on a winter jumper. Whatever, it meant I didn't freeze today.
On my way to campus I picked up my train tickets for tomorrow's meet up in Birmingham, are any of you going? I had a ridiculous amount of fun last time, and even though I'm not staying for the night this time round, I can't wait to explore the Christmas Market.

It was wonderful to meet Olivia a couple of days ago and talk about scones, trains, and the importance of taking the teabag out of your tea before putting the milk in (no joke, this is a really important issue). I just got another disposable camera developed so expect to see some (but definitely not all) of them here very, very soon.

It's been quite busy recently.

Instead of walking straight back to my accommodation I decided to go for a wander around bits of Liverpool I'd never been to before. Lots of deserted car parks, bombed out buildings, rubble and brick walls. The Tobacco Warehouse looked so beautiful in the late afternoon light. I noticed a hole in the wall (next to where I'm standing in the second photo, actually) and through it was the most delightful canal.

A nice little break from reading and responsibilities. Then I had a jacket potato with coleslaw for dinner.

i attended brownstock festival for the second year in a row (see my post about last year's here). of course i managed to successfully avoid any of the professional photographers, yet i managed to go through a total of two and a half disposable cameras, as well as most of the film on my lomo fisheye (yet to be developed, the suspense/fear lies palpably inside my bag).
i don't know whether it's the board games, pianoke (there was a rather impressive rendition of parklife), or the mindset of the local rugby club to dress up (i saw mankinis, a french maid, and some nuns), but i just love brownstock. it's small, especially when compared to the only other nearby festival v, but that just adds to the charm. and lessens the queue for the mediterranean wraps. so good, i can't even.

and somehow we adopted/inherited/won a pink unicorn, christened dave.

For those of you who may not have noticed, Look Magazine is holding a competition offering the chance to blog front row from their LFW show. And this is my shameless entry for it. (As well as a little bit like an extended "About Me")

I've been blogging for a while now, I see it more as a way of sharing thoughts with people and getting to know others in a way more creative than sitting passively on Facebook or in a darkened, dripping room on a Friday night. I know that most of my friends don't "get it", and in all honesty I don't truly expect them to. Each to their own, and such. All I know is that I enjoy having a place where I can just offload my thoughts, share photos of outfits (normally purchased ridiculously reduced on ebay and from charity shops), and, most importantly, talk and have discussions with other bloggers (slow burning addiction to twitter, now obvious).

As for me ("The Girl Behind The Blog", aha), I'm just about to start my second year reading English at the University of Liverpool, after having completed A Levels in English Literature, Art, German and History. I'm slowly getting more heavily involved with the university's magazine "Ellipsis", particularly the marketing and editing sides of things, which was founded last year. The media (specifically published, as opposed to radio and television) has always intrigued me, and my growing pile of magazines can be held testament to this.

Winning the competition would be an incredible opportunity. I've never had the chance to go to LFW before, despite essentially living there. I went to Somerset House last fashion week, just to see what it was like, and there was an almost palpable rush of activity and anticipation for the evening's shows. Never before have I seen so many DSLRs in one place. The idea of actually being a part of this, rather than being a mere observer... Well, I can't even imagine how I'd react. (Just give me about five minutes to blog about it?)

panic on the streets of birmingham

we started as we ended - the pallasades' starbucks. havoc in the form of yellow max c bags slowly took over with their frappucinos. add to that the tote bags (you can never have enough totes, trust me) courtesy of missguided and motel, plus tesco clothing goodies, and i think you'll understand why i had some fetching red marks on my shoulder. these are the only photos i took (claire and i decided that we just couldn't leave those fur coats behind. in july.), so i'll leave the "professional" shots to the others.

it was so, so lovely to finally meet some of the girls i've been tweeting for months over mushroom risotto at red peppers and a fair bit of vodka at the hmv institute. admittedly, i did quite enjoy the wetherspoons breakfast (and gallons of orange juice) the next morning. heaven in a juicer. i keep checking the #brumbloggermeet hashtag and discovering even more wonderful (and not so flattering!) photos. even if i did start to feel quite nervous the night before, i am so, so glad i went, so massive love for claire and fritha for organising it all! hello to sara, gem, emma, selina, gemma, and (of course!) emma who witnessed my excuse for dancing to the smiths in the little hours, as well as elizabeth, florrie, and hattie who explored birmingham's culinary delights with me. another (even bigger?) hello to char, clare, danni, eloise, hayley, joy, lily, louise, maria and sarah who i didn't really get to spend so much time with, i think we need another reunion to rectify this. anyone up for it? ;)

last week topshop hosted an event called "wish you were at topshop" which, as it coincided with the end of my exams (no longer can anyone tell me to "down it fresherrrrr"- hooray!) i headed down to liverpool one to see what was happening. one of the girls persuaded me to actually get involved, so i put on the blazer and got my photo taken (since when did ipads have cameras?), bought myself a ring and a cream tea from patisserie valerie as a treat for surviving year one, then returned to topshop for the dazed digital talk, which was stupidly interesting. (then i bought a bottle of rosé and discovered there's a lambanana in heebie jeebie's, but that's another story entirely).

hopefully as i'm back home for summer i'll be able to post more regularly, thank you so much to all my followers, and those who comment (arghhh, stop being so gushy, rebecca). are any of you going to the midlands meet-up in birmingham? i'm thinking of popping along!

this summer is a time for music festivals, gigs, and the theatre (les miserables!!), and in the meantime i need stuff to distract me from reading shakespeare and james joyce - and this is where my enviable photoshop skills come in.

i'd really like to point out the boots in the last collage. they're made by a company called anello and davide who are based in kensington, london. they hand make all their shoes for each individual customer, and the ones i've pictured are an adaptation of the classic chelsea boot which became popular in the sixties due to the beatles (and many other bands of the time) naming them their footwear of choice. my mum told me she saved all her wages for a pair of her own (mid-calf and silver) but has no idea what happened to them, something i can't quite forgive her for.

for the past few years i've been dreaming of having my own pair custom made - but which colour and material would i choose?!

david bowie turned sixty-four today, so i wore electric blue eye-liner which i found serendipitously in my bathroom at three in the morning. when i emerged from my room with a waft of hairspray my mum couldn't help but ask whether i was off to a ballet class. instead it was just a trip to town to return a pair of beautiful shoes because regardless of being very skilled in keeping high heels on all night, those toe crunchers wouldn't have lasted more than an hour. damn.

seeing as i've reached five hundred followers, its nearly christmas and it's my birthday next week (nineteen, scary) now seems like the perfect time to say thank you to all my wonderful followers. and, as it's the festive season, what everyone needs is that uglycute jumper to wear when sipping on glühwein and making mince pies.

this jumper is from a little shop in liverpool called pop boutique which sells mens and womens vintage clothing as well as homewares, cards and some of their own designs. this jumper is made by pop and it has reindeers on it. reindeers! it's super comfy, so when i've got my birthday money i may have to go back and get a similar one for myself. this is a medium and fits me fine (i vary between a 10 and 12 uk dress size, never thought i'd be saying that online...), i'd say it'd comfortably fit sizes 4-14.

looking back, i realise i've never really given any basic facts about myself, so maybe now's the time to have a go (:

i like to have something on my wrist at all times. not a watch, but things i can genuinely forget about. ribbon, string, etc. currently all i have is my brownstock wristband... it's only a matter of time before the collection builds up again.

i was walking down brook street the other day and got weirdly emotional seeing that the luella shop had been converted into an aspinal's of london. i miss her so much... but then i met up with friends and went to starbucks (ADDICTION) and then a restaurant for his birthday. swings and roundabouts.

i like to go out without a plan. it often leads to things that... well, it's safe to say that i've made mistakes, but i don't think that's a bad thing. necessarily.

okay, a2 results tomorrow. kind of numb about how these four letters can contain such gravity. i think i'm going to read trashy magazines (look, vogue, elle collections), watch films (500 days of summer, my fair lady, roman holiday) and generally be a loser (disaronno, vodka, cranberry juice) till i can't stay awake any more.

well, i'm back. it's taken me a couple of days to go through all the comments (you're all babes, don't think i'm complaining!) and bloglovin', and yet to wade through blogger, but i will catch up.

here i am, in our apartment thing in brighton, with one of the many cans of red bull that i consumed. that stuff runs through my veins (yes, i know it's bad for you).

there will be more photos when i have my film developed - promise!

a very british summer

orla kiely is an irish designer based in london, with a fantastical shop in covent garden. i don't own any of it (although i am VERY tempted to go for one of the dresses which is £150... in the sale) but LOOK. the socks and shoes look is essentially what i am renowned for (as well as my tights. clearly my feet/legs get more attention than i do) and i love her signature patterns.

the reason british people drink tea all year round is because there is no need to have cold drinks. it is always mild.

yet i am heading off to the seaside until next weekend; armed with disposable cameras, elle collections and a big carpet bag. And an optimistic bikini :|
